My Sunday Reset Routine: Intentional Time at Home with the People You Love

There is something sacred about a Sunday at home.

Not a Sunday of crossing off a to-do list. Not a Sunday of scrambling to catch up before Monday hits. But a real Sunday — slow and unhurried, full of the people you love and the simple pleasures that make your home feel like a sanctuary.

That is what the Sunday Reset means to me.

It's less about cleaning and more about coming home to yourself. It's lighting a candle and opening your Bible before the day gets going. It's a long breakfast with no phones on the table. It's tidying a surface here and there — not because the house has to be perfect, but because a peaceful space helps you feel peaceful inside. It's the kind of Sunday that sends you into Monday feeling genuinely rested and grateful.

Today I'm sharing what my Sunday Reset actually looks like — not a rigid cleaning schedule, but a gentle rhythm of intention, presence, and love for the people and the home God has given me.

Before Anything Else — Set the Tone

The first fifteen minutes of your Sunday set the tone for the whole day. Before the to-do list, before the phone, before the noise — do these three things:

  • Open your Bible. Even one chapter. Even five quiet minutes. Give the day to the Lord before you give it to anything else.

  • Light a candle. Something warm and familiar — vanilla, clean linen, soft florals. The moment the flame catches, something in your body slows down.

  • Make something warm to drink. Coffee, tea, matcha — whatever feels like a treat. Hold the mug with both hands and just breathe for a moment.

This is your reset beginning. Everything else flows from here.

Morning — Presence Over Productivity

Sunday mornings were made for slowness. Resist the urge to launch straight into tasks and instead lean into the people around you.

Have a real breakfast together. Not grabbed on the go. Sit down, make something warm — eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit, whatever your family loves — and eat together with no phones at the table. Ask each person one question about their week. Listen fully. This single habit will change the feeling of your Sundays more than any cleaning routine ever could.

Do a light tidy — just enough to feel settled. I am not talking about a deep clean. I am talking about ten intentional minutes of making your home feel calm:

  • Fluff the couch pillows and fold any stray throws

  • Clear the kitchen counter and wipe it down

  • Make the beds — even just pulling up the comforter counts

  • Open the blinds and let the light in

That's it. A light, loving sweep that says I care for this space without consuming your whole morning.

Sit in your favorite spot. After breakfast, before the day fully begins — find your favorite chair, your sunniest window, your coziest corner — and just sit. Read, journal, pray, or simply be still. You do not have to earn the rest that comes next. It is already yours.

Midday — Tend to Your Home With Love

This is the heart of the Sunday Reset — not a cleaning blitz, but a gentle act of stewardship. Moving through your home slowly and gratefully, taking care of the space where your family lives and breathes.

The living room. Straighten the pillows, fold the blankets, clear any cups or clutter that wandered in during the week. Put on worship music or a cozy playlist while you do it. This is not a chore — it is an act of love for everyone who comes home to this room.

The kitchen. Clear the sink, wipe down the counters, refresh your dish towels. While you are in there, think about what you want to nourish your family with this week. Even a simple meal plan scribbled on a notepad sets the week up beautifully.

The bedrooms. Straighten the sheets, clear the nightstands, put away anything that has piled up. A tidy bedroom is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself — walking into a calm room at the end of the day feels like a reward.

The one rule: If it takes less than two minutes, do it now. If it takes longer, it can wait for a weekday. Sunday is not the day for big projects. It is the day for gentle maintenance and a grateful heart.

Afternoon — Invest in the People You Love

This is my favorite part of the Sunday Reset and the part most people leave out entirely. After the light tidy, the afternoon belongs to your people.

Go outside together. A walk, a drive with the windows down, time in the backyard — just get outside as a family. Fresh air and movement and togetherness is some of the best medicine there is. Let the kids run. Hold hands. Notice things. Point out the sky.

Do something unhurried together. A board game. A puzzle. Baking something together in the kitchen. Watching a movie you all love. Reading aloud. Looking through old photos. The activity matters less than the presence. Put the phone in another room and just be with each other.

Pray over your family. Before Sunday ends, gather your people — however that looks in your home — and pray together. Pray over the week ahead. Pray over each person by name. Thank God for your home, your health, your togetherness. This five minute practice will become one of the most sacred parts of your week.

Evening — Wind Down and Prepare

As Sunday evening settles in, shift gently into preparation mode — not urgency, just quiet readiness.

A simple, nourishing dinner. Nothing elaborate needed. A warm, homemade meal eaten together at the table is enough. Light a candle. Set the table nicely even if it is just the two of you. Eating beautifully is one of the easiest ways to romanticize an ordinary evening.

Prepare for Monday — just the basics.

  • Lay out your outfit for tomorrow

  • Look at your calendar so nothing surprises you

  • Write down your top three priorities for the week

  • Make sure the kitchen is tidy before bed

That is all. Not a full productivity session — just enough to feel ready so Monday doesn't catch you off guard.

A slow, intentional evening routine. A long shower. Your full skincare routine done slowly, not rushed. A devotional or a few chapters of something good. A quiet conversation with your husband. Getting into a made bed in a clean room with a candle burning nearby.

This is what rest looks like. Receive it without guilt.

The Heart Behind the Reset

The Sunday Reset is not about having a perfect home. It is not about being the most organized woman on the street or having every surface gleaming before Monday arrives.

It is about intention. It is about choosing, week after week, to slow down in a world that never stops rushing. To be present with your family. To care for your home as the gift it is. To begin the week from a place of peace rather than exhaustion.

Some Sundays will be full and beautiful. Some will be hard and imperfect and survival-mode at best. Both are okay. Grace is always part of the reset.

Every Sunday is a new beginning. And that is a very beautiful thing.
